There are more Chinese teenagers in the web than the U.S.

China's population of Internet users exceeded the population of the United States of America. Despite the total control over the Web, which exercises the Chinese Government, by the end of June the Chinese Internet sector had more than 253 million users.

Dynamic growth in number of users impresses - since the end of last June, there was 56 percent increase in the number of users, said China Internet Network Information Center. In doing so, the number of Internet users in China is still very small and does not exceed 19.1%, which leaves room for further growth.

On-line population of the United States, according to Nielsen Online, in June amounted to 223.1 million, Internet penetration was 71%. The number of Chinese users exceeded the number of American user for the first time in the history of the Internet.

AOL will close three services.

Aol

AOL announced the closure of three services for the storage of data online, including one of the oldest photo hosting resources, to reduce costs and focus on the company's advertising business .

By the end of this year the following sites will be closed: AOL Pictures, media-sharing site BlueString and on-line repository Xdrive. The latest resource is likely to be resold, states The Day

Official comments of the company denied that the closure of these services is preparation to sell the whole AOL. "The decision on the closure of services by 100% coincides with the strategy launched last year in which the company will focus on services and products that will contribute to its growth," said the company's press secretary Trish Primrose.

AOL Pictures was opened in 1998 under the name of You've Got Pictures and was the first of the sites to offered the option of storage and sharing digital images.

Microsoft will develop a new search engine page.

MSN Live Search

Microsoft is working on a merger of all online services into one web page, collecting sprayed services from various sources and brands.

The company is often criticized for introducing unpopular Live, which has not replaced MSN, but "dissipated" audience's attention, which led to the development of methods to address this fact, as reported in early June.

According to Microsoft SEO Steve Ballmer, this process will take place simultaneously with the work to enhance the popularity of company's brands.

Moreover, the problem of brand is not a priority for the software giant. The main problem is the structure of the home page, which currently contains only the field for inquiry. According to Balmera, this should be corrected.

Microsoft introduced a new search algorithm.

MSN

The team of researchers from Microsoft introduced the concept of a new algorithm which, presumably, completely changes MSN search engine. BrowseRank is a response from Microsoft to Google's PageRank algorithm.

Unlike PR, BrowseRank will use not "link graph" as the basis but "user browsing graph", which will not take into account the number of links, and the number of visits and time spent on a page. In addition, the algorithm will take into account the views of visitors of the page.

In addition to the new algorithm Microsoft improves its MSN search engine through semantic means of recently acquired Powerset.
